W5JH Mobile

W5JH Mobile

The mobile station consists of a 1998 GMC Sierra Pickup truck. It is 4 years old now and has 22,000 miles on it as of 10/24/2001 (just getting broke in good). The radio used is an ICOM IC706MKIIG. The hf antenna is a W6AAQ Screwdriver antenna mounted on the bed rail just behind the extended cab on the drivers side. Since the truck was new and seeing that I didn't want go drilling holes in it just yet, I used a "no hole" mount. The details of this mounting method is shown in the pictures. This mounting method works on almost all pickup trucks. This method has been proved to be an effect low cost method of mounting the Screwdriver Antenna. The VHF/UHF antenna is a MFJ mag mount whip setting on the roof of the truck.

Even though the radio/antennas combination is capable of operating 75 through 3/4 meters, most operation occurs on the 75, 40, or 17 Meter bands using SSB. I haven't tried CW mobile yet.
